First, a video that's quite fun. Mithra & Tarutaru + Kraken Club + Mercurial Kris = good times!
Now, for updates. Finally did it, I lowered Marksmanship merits from 8 (cap) to level 7. I also stripped both of my Evasion merits off (-2). Raised Archery to level 7. My game plan: Take Sword to level 6. So that's 20/20 for the category of Combat Skills and they're finally all done. IF I find things are sucking too bad with my lowered stats, I might reconsider and re-raise them, since with the advent of Campaign, it's stupid-easy to get merit points with little or no risk.
Currently, I'm working on my Imp-soloing build for Blue Mage. I STILL need to beta test these new macro sets on Caedarva Mire Imps, and build a full Campaign/Besieged macro book for Ranger, Blue Mage, and Black Mage (and all subs). Yeah, that's not ALL happening tonight. Well, SOME of it might. Depends on how motivated I get in the next 10 minutes...

Cha-CHING!
Yesterday was another of those strangely productive days, they're becoming quite frequent. Here's to hoping they continue, eh? The breakdown follows.
In the wee early hours, a few of us helped Gigie get her missing Moldavite Earring. I managed to score Thunder IV for my BLM in the process and someone got a map (Rodie, I think). In attendance were myself, Gigie (duh), Pesh, Thaedan, and Rodie.
I arose from my sarcophagus around 10am, and set about working on macros and gear builds. After about 4-5hrs of testing and research, I FINALLY managed to get my damned BLU/THF macros set up and functional. Meanwhile Chaosity and I had been discussing NM's and their crappy drop rates when the conversation happened upon Blizzaga III. Apparently she still lacked it and the drop rate from Doom Warlocks was complete ass. Coincidentally, my BLM will need this spell, and many of the other spells they drop, and since I needed to beta-test my /thf gear builds in the field, I suggested we go beat up a few.
We trekked to Gustav Tunnel, along with Redthorne, and started tearing into the target mobs. We were killing them at a decent clip, but nothing was dropping other than bone chips. Then Redthorne saw something while he was testing his "1337 MGS skillz" -- an NM. Taxim, who had the potential to drop some savory stuff, including the long-sought Blizzaga III for Chaosity. We pounded on him for a bit, and until now I was getting pretty consistent 1.1k-1.55k Cannonballs with my build and spell set, so I decided to give Taxim a little taste. WHAM! 1.3k Cannonball. \o/ EPIC VICTORY! Ha! The following Warlock took a 1573 Cannonball to the FACE. Got a nice screen grab of Redthorne exclaiming, and I quote, "omg Bard wtf" -- priceless. I digress, Taxim was a selfish bitch, and only dropped Blizzaga II for my BLM. One of the following Warlocks finally gave up the goods and dropped Chaosity's spell, and Redthorne earned his 4th merit point and recapped exp on his PLD. All in all, a most triumphant run. Next time, we're bringing Don Peshcorleone, so his Treasure Hunter trait can make them an offer they can't refuse...
Speaking of which, Pesh-face managed to freak out with merits in Campaign, capping his Triple Attack category earlier in the day, and getting to level 2 with his Critical Hit Rate later on that night. Congrats you crazy damn Sicilian!
Next it's Limbus time. We were doing Proto-Omega and I was hoping for some serious "drops" [read: chest pops] so I can actually get my first piece of Homam gear for my BLU. The run went smoothly, and the chest yielded hands and feet! Both pieces I'd like to have, but my original plan was to only bid if head or feet popped. So that's what I did. Bid on feet for 17 points. Now I get to save up for another piece and pray for free lot on any of them (Homam head). On another note, I feel REALLY bad for Miroku, who originally was the bid leader for the hands, then when Rioka told him to lot it, he lost power and disconnected. Pesh was then the leader for bid, but the hands ended up auto-lotting to Redthorne -- who already had them. o.O NOT GOOD. That was a problem with everyone not passing coins and armor in time, since they were scrambling around hoping Miro would return.
Finally, Feiht, Gigie, Slight and I hit Castle Oztroja for some farming/levelling NPC Fellow action. Turns out Tzee Xicu the Manifest was up, and we kicked his bird-bag Yagudo ass all over the place. Drops included Daylight Dagger and misc other stuff, but nothing really noteworthy. During the farming I managed to get a nice Aero III and Aeroga II scroll for my BLM.
To summarize: macros and gear builds, Aero III, Aeroga II, Blizzaga II, Thunder IV and Homam Gambieras acquired for myself, Chaosity finally got her Blizzaga III, Redthorne got a merit and gear he can't use through another's calamity, Pesh zerg'd his merit categories, and fun was had all the way around. Great success!

Plethora of Elations and Disasters
Yeah, it's been a while, sue me. I'll attempt to be chronological, but if it's not, or if I leave something out... meh.
ITEM: Obtained Shaman's Cloak and Stonega II for my BLM with the help of Rodie and Nedavia. Thanks you two. :3
ITEM: Serena passed away June 5th, 2008 while I was on vacation. This is a very sore subject for me, so I won't go into it, as it's not at all game related (but this blog is).
ITEM: Managed to get my Black Mage to 43, kicking and screaming. Actually this is a devilishly fun job, which I solo'd and duo'd with Thaedan. 1-24 subbed Blue Mage, then sub Ninja for dual wield and Utsusemi shadows. We found some impressive camps, then at around 41, it just died. Literally there were zero camps that delivered the amount of experience we desired. So we broke off and tried soloing. I've no idea where Thaedan's at with his, but mine's 43, and I think I found a camp we can duo at once more. I'll have to discuss this with him soon.
ITEM: After the update, my Assimilation merits were uncapped (I was 3/3). I took a break from levelling (read: being frustrated at) Black Mage to recap and ding'd 10 merits in 4 days. Not at all bad, and a 4xBLU, RDM, BRD rocks hard at my favorite Nyzul Imp camp. Thanks go out to Don Peshcorleone (Pesh), Armonde, Bethany, Rodie, and Sekundes for the awesome 4th day party.
ITEM: SoulPiratesElite has been reformed as WorshipTheFloor. There have been issues, we've pissed off a few we never expected to, we FAILED to scare off the people we'd rather NOT continue to participate, and our inaugural run was... pathetic. The shell's a different color, the rules have been tightened up, yet people lose their minds despite it being the SAME shell and officers. Yeah, okay, whatever. Time will tell if it was worth it or not. Still... we've got a really nice web presence and the forums are very professional. Robnar's done a bang-up job overall, well done.
ITEM: The current trend for both my 75 jobs to be FAR under the exp cap, "FAR" is defined [by me] to be under 40k, is completely unacceptable. Yesterday had TWO really good point, which was outside the game. Everything else was shit. The details: I find a potential solo camp, turns out it's an even better duo camp, for Black Mage. Earned a decent bit of exp duoing with some random BLM that showed up, then lost ALL of it trying to solo at the SAME camp after he left. Logged out. Logged back in later, went to Castle Oz for some NPC fellow levelling fun, and was raped by 6 Yagudos. Ate a HP and logged. Afterward I noticed my BLU was below 40k exp and logged out completely pissed off (and I still am, to the point where I just don't want to bother playing).
I think this about covers the activities from my last post until 1hr ago. I need to take a few weeks off from this game and everyone/everything associated with it. Games are meant to be recreational, but this is more like work, and the rub is I'm PAYING for this completely absence of fun. NOT A GOOD THING. Perhaps I should fire up Okami again and forget FFXI exists for a bit... like last time. Problem is, before I had ZERO responsibilities/obligations. Now, I'm a senior officer in a renewed Dynamis linkshell AND an active participant in a Limbus linkshell.
I'll figure something out. I always do...

Cake with Icing
Yesterday will go down in history as probably THE singularly most productive day I've EVER had in FFXI in the nearly five years I've played.
Saturday, I logged out near the Ranger AF1 (weapon) tree in Jugner Forest, since the "???" will only give the cut-scene during the full moon, which it was going to be Sunday morning some two hours before conquest tally. Considering the little sleep I managed to get because I was ripping apart the entertainment center to integrate the Wii, I'm surprised I heard my alarm and stumbled forth from the tomb.
I took care of some necessary housework and logged into FFXI. In no particular order accomplished ALL the following things:
- finished AF weapon quest
- obtained Hunter's Beret +1 (woo!)
- advanced to Steelknight Emblem in Campaign
- obtained another pair of sprinter's shoes
- finished Hunter's Beret quest and stored the entire AF set on NPC.
- built a phenomenal merit party with Bethany, Armonde, Xmaru, Orlinde, and a truly amazing Bard named Selaine ({Nice to meet you})
- participated (read: died a lot) in Dynamis
- built ANOTHER merit party, a little less exp per hour but damn decent (Armonde, Orlinde, Kazesan, Chaosity, and Siraj were in attendance. Congrats Armonde on 75THF!)
- capped my Spell Interruption Rate modification merits (FINALLY)
- gained another merit point in Campaign with Thaedan
Considering all the running around involved in FFXI, most of all how SLOW it is, getting this much stuff done in a day is amazing.
Fast forward to Monday, Memorial Day. I hopped in game and was happy to see Orlinde ding 75 Black Mage (cook ze bunnies! BOOM!). Apparently she needed Thunder IV, so they invited me to come out-pull other campers with them, "they" being Peshcor, Armonde, Siraj, Orlinde and Thaedan. First pop of Mysticmaker scored my Blue Mage/blm / Black Mage a nice Moldavite Earring, but no Thunder IV for Orlinde (dropped Thunder III instead).
Two and a half hours later, there were 2 campers (a 75 Red Mage and a Dark Knight), so we had a bit of a challenge (Shadowbind + Loxley/Striders Ranger 75 vs 75 Red Mage's Fast Cast Dia). In the meantime, we popped chests for maps (didn't know I was lacking a map of Labyrinth of Onzozo before today; Thaedan, Siraj, and I all got one) and slew a lot of Cockatrices for TP build and drops for Siraj [she's crazy for cock meat and tons were dropping!].
The moment of truth came, and I was very happy to yoink Mysticmaker out from under the Red Mage camper, who was facing the wrong way when he popped. Whamo! Thunder IV for Orlinde and Thaedan scored the second Moldavite Earring drop for his Black Mage. Zuriel, my brother and quite decent Red Mage was impressed with the claim, and I logged to hang out with him for a few hours.
I logged back in after Zuriel left and helped Thaedan with his Bastok Rank 6.1 (twin Manticore NM) fight. That was a little close, but we nailed it (grats Thaedan!). Our super team was Armonde, Orlinde, Thaedan and I. Then it was time for Limbus. Limbus was fun, as always, and I actually ate the floor (Fluid Spread for 1430-ish damage = dead Ranger) in Apollyon SE. I think we were just happy to get through it with the sparse magic support -- I believe we had only one Black Mage.
Finally, did a fast Crawler's Nest Escort with Feiht to dump another exp scroll on my [retired] Thief. That job's "scroll only" now, as I've sold off most of my Thief gear.
In closing, a LOT has been accomplished these past two days. I'm still in disbelief, if you couldn't already tell, due to the nature of FFXI. Hopefully this is the beginning of a nice trend. Tomorrow's goal: Black Mage to 40. We shall see...

And now for something COMPLETELY different...
Greetings,
"The time has come," the Elvaan said, "to get thine self a new blog."
So, I did. I moved the prior entries from my old one here, and will strive to maintain it as I progress[?] in Final Fantasy XI.
There WILL be long delays between posts, since it seems good things only come after epic bouts of pain and suffering in Vana'diel. I'll try to record the good as well as the bad, but no promises.

Timesink...
This game is a HUGE timesink, seriously.
I had a ton to do today mostly before 1pm when the appraiser for the refinance came out, and when I'd finished around 12:15pm, I logged into FFXI. Right now, it's 11pm. Know how much I've gotten accomplished in-game?
That's right, you guessed it, absofuckinglutely nothing.
Why not do Dynamis with SPE? Considering it's 84 degrees at my desk, and I'm only keeping this PC on long enough to post this... added to the fact my third-key called me to let me know I'd be opening tomorrow due to my manager's roaring case of the flu. On a side note, I'm getting a little sick of starter cities (tonight was Jeuno) - sure it's good to help out, but I'd rather get BLU to 75 as fast as I can.
So I've been sitting in-game, not finding ANYTHING to do. No exp parties, though several attempts (thanks for the comic relief Saskai - remember 72 death-weak BLU > 74 PLD vs Imps) and I have been VERY slowly getting exp solo on the Imps in Ilrusi Atoll, just outside the staging point, where they still con "Tough" to me. The exp's ooookay... but lack of Sea spells means it's taking me a LOT longer to kill these, so no high exp chains.
Periodically, I check to see if anyone worth two shits is on and not already engaged in some quest/mission/Dynamis/Limbus/whatever -- to no avail.
To say I'm smoldering just under the skin would be an accurate description. I've had the day off, and it's wasted since nothing was accomplished. [sigh]
Perhaps I'll do something constructive and watch a DVD or three before bed.

This space intentionally left blank...
Here I sit in Tavnazian Safehold, pondering the infinite, trying to come up with something witty, insightful, inspiring, whatever -- and totally failing on all counts.
So much for a first blog entry ANYWHERE.
Well, some things to probably expect - a lot of griping and hopefully something useful about my adventures as a Ranger and Blue Mage in FFXI.
So sit back, enjoy the ride, and bring a helmet. You've been warned.
